Flashback Fridays: Road to One- Nesting

My Kinsley Bell is almost a WHOLE year old, so every Friday until the big day we will take a stroll down memory lane. First up... Preppin for Baby.

So I eluded earlier about how my husband and I waited 3 months to tell our friends and family we were expecting. I then came up with the brilliant idea to wait until delivery to find out the sex. This was a bit much for my type A husband, so he found out at 20 weeks and I swore him to secrecy. Only he and God could know because I truly wanted this to be the best surprise of my life, and it was! The day Gary proposed, comes in a close second.

Anyway I said all that to say, prepping for baby without knowing the sex was fun/interesting/confusing all at the same time. But like I said, sis researched and read and chose what I thought would be best for our bundle. I also started nesting kinda early, somewhere around 5 1/2 months so I had a good head start on prepping the nursery, the house and our household.

Without further ado- my gift to you....

My list of how to prepare for baby- the Nesting series.

Get Organized Sis

Before you do anything, get organized. Whatever that means for you. Figure out how you want your nursery to look and where things will go.

For me it was putting everything in its place:

-diapers in size order

- outfits, pajama sets, onesies, socks, bibs that would be washed right away

- outfits, jackets to be hung

-shoes

-blankets

-burp cloths

-receiving towels

-bath time supplies

-laundry supplies

-stored away larger sized clothes into storage bins for later use

Wash

Go ahead and get some washing done because its not gonna happen once baby comes and you're good and tired. Since you don't know how big lil bebe will be upon their arrival I recommend washing 1-2 weeks worth of newborn and all of your 0-3 months clothes. If you need to wash more newborn once he/she arrives, enlist grandma/grandpa's help.

I would also wait until you've entered the maternity leave stage to wash. After all you don't want the clothes collecting dust while you wait. I personally had hubby wash everything that would touch bebe's skin about 2 weeks before she came.

-all clothes newborn and 0-3 months

-socks

-bibs

-bath towels

-blankets

-receiving towels

Be Flexibile

You might have prepped everything to your liking, washed the clothes and designed the nursery perfectly and baby comes out big. He/she cant fit any of the newborn clothes you chose to only wash. You're tired and now regretting not listening to Natty :). That's ok- Don't beat yourself up. This is the biggest lesson that only comes with experience. Parents, we are so hard on ourselves for not getting it right. Well guess what, we've never done this before and we're winging it. I'm still in shock they just let us leave the hospital with the baby. So give yourself a break, take the nap, breathe and roll with the punches :)

I wish I could say its as seamless as these three bold headers, but that would be a falsified statement and we're getting enough of those in the news these days. hehehe

So enjoy the nesting stage. Begin getting your mind right. Take some time for you and get ready- you're almost there and you're gonna be great mama...

I promise.

Love you, Mean it,

Nateanah
